Mark Boston, aka Smark Mark, is a professional dancer, choreographer, educator and entrepreneur. In 2010, Boston founded I Am Phresh, the first and only hip-hop-based dance studio in the greater Philadelphia region. With three dance companies, workshops, classes and monthly performance events, I Am Phresh’s mission is to inspire audiences, engage youth, and foster diversity and inclusion through hip-hop dance. A self-taught dancer, Boston has performed as a principle member of the Philadelphia-based company, Chosen Dance; at local and national events including ESPN’s X-Games VIII, Superbowl XL, BET’s 106th and Park, and Philadelphia City Hall’s 100th Anniversary; in a nationally televised NFL advertising campaign; and as co-founder and member of the dance crew Phresh Select on Season 2 of MTV/Randy Jackson’s America’s Best Dance Crew.
Central to Boston’s focus as a dancer and educator is the welfare and advancement of young people who desire further education and richer, more varied world experience. Boston has helped numerous young dancers navigate the professional dance world, find gainful employment as performers and educators, and continually develop their technical dance skills. As a well-known leader and representative of Philadelphia’s hip-hop dance scene, Boston continues to perform, teach and battle, bringing his passion and love for dance to generational audiences across the United States.
